PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic thin wire, capable of being employed for the materials of a mat for surface combustion burner, a filter for high temperature, a vibration insulator or the like and high in resistance to oxidation at high temperatures as well as workability, and a porous mat, high in resistance to oxidation at high temperatures and employing the metallic thin wire. SOLUTION: The compositional element of material metal of a metallic thin wire includes nickel, chromium and preferably aluminum, cobalt, as well as rare earth metal whereby a metallic thin wire, having a diameter less than 100μm and high in resistance to oxidation at high temperatures as well as workability, can be obtained inexpensively. The thin wire is formed by rotating a copper disc, having a sharp edge of the peripheral rim of the same, and supplying molten material metal from the lower part of the same whereby the manufacture of the metallic thin wire becomes easy and inexpensive. Further, the metallic fine wire is used for a porous mat for a surface combustion burner and the like whereby stability and durability upon repeating heating/cooling can be improved.
