PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare an ameliorating agent for constipation by including a complex of chitin and calcium therein. SOLUTION: This medicine comprises a chitin-calcium complex of chitin and an inorganic substance such as calcium. The chitin-calcium complex is derived from an exoskeleton of crustaceans, e.g. a lobster or a shrimp or a crab and is obtained by carrying out the deproteinizing treatment of the substrate derived therefrom with a dilute alkali without performing a deashing treatment while leaving the ash such as the calcium so as not to deteriorate the fibrous structure of the chitin at least twice, then washing the treatment product with water and drying the washed product. The chitin-calcium complex preferably contains 15-40% chitin and 20-35% calcium therein. The calcium contained therein contributes as a supplementary source for bones and the chitin forms the fibrous structure hardly losing the chitin in an extraction step. Thereby, the enteric transference ratio of foods, etc., is remarkably enhanced and the agent is effective in ameliorating constipation. |
