PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a safe antioxidative composition by using a lactoferrin compound selected from lactoferrin copper, lactoferrin zinc and lactoferrin manganese as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This antioxidative composition contains a lactoferrin compound selected from lactoferrin copper, lactoferrin zinc and lactoferrin manganese, preferably of 1-20wt.% content, as an active ingredient. The lactoferrin can be the one available in market or the one separated from a milk, a skimmed milk, etc., of a mammal by a conventional method. The lactoferrin compound is obtained by purifying the lactoferrin by an ion-exchange chromatography, dissolving the purified lactoferrin in an aqueous solution of citric acid, removing iron from the solution, and further reacting the obtained iron-free apo-lactoferrin with copper sulfate aqueous (or solvent) solution, zinc sulfate aqueous (or solvent) solution or manganese chloride aqueous (or solvent) solution, and carrying out a ultrafiltration of the reacted product. The objective composition can be used in combination with a well known antioxidative agent such as vitamin C. |
