摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably simplify a controller without needing a special detector, etc., and to accurately observe the height of a furnace hearth surface at a low cost by using an attached device to an arc furnace needed to the operation of the arc furnace. SOLUTION: In this method for detecting the furnace hearth level of the DC arc furnace for melting and heating the metal 5 to be melted such as scrap by forming arc 10 between at least one piece of elevating/lowering upper electrode 7 and a furnace bottom electrode 6, the upper electrode length (L0) under an electrode holder 9 is calculated from the electrode holder height 9 measured in the outside of the arc furnace 1 and the reference value of the upper electrode 7 height, and the furnace hearth 2 level (Hr) is calculated from the upper electrode length (L0), the remained molten steel height (L1) calculated from the remained molten steel quantity in the furnace and the electrode holder height (H0) measured at the time of bringing the tip part of the upper electrode into contact with the remained molten steel. The difference between the furnace hearth level (Hr) and the preset reference furnace hearth level (Hm) is calculated to decide repairing time of the furnace hearth.</p>
