Salts of imidazoline compounds of the general formula <FORM:0971600/C1/1> wherein R1 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group having 7 to 17 carbon atoms and R2 represents a hydroxyalkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, with a dicarboxylic acid which is unsubstituted or substituted by free hydroxyl or mercapto groups are prepared by adding the molten imidazoline to a mixture of the dicarboxylic acid and aqueous isopropanol. Specified acids are adipic, sebacic, isophthalic, tartaric, maleic and mercaptosuccinic acids.ALSO:The invention comprises a composition of matter which comprises (a) a polymeric resin selected from polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and an interpolymer of vinyl chloride and a vinyl ester, and (b) a salt of a compound of the general formula <FORM:0971600/C3/1> wherein R1 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group containing 7 to 17 carbon atoms and R2 represents a hydroxyalkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, with a dicarboxylic acid which is unsubstituted or substituted by free hydroxyl or mercapto groups. Mixtures of the said salts may also be used. The incorporation of the salts in the resins prevents static charge accumulation on the resins or on articles such as phonograph records made therefrom. Other additives may also be incorporated in the resins such as heat stabilizers, lubricity agents, pigments or other colouring materials. Examples are given. |
