GRAY LEVEL CORRECTION METHOD FOR IMAGE FORMING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct gray level correctly by simplifying the gray level correction process. SOLUTION: Each ink chamber of an ink jet recording head 13 is driven with respect to a recording paper 5 wound around a drum 2 under specified drive conditions such that the dots are not overlapped in the main scanning direction thus printing a plurality of dots continuously in the subscanning direction. Each row of dots is scanned optically a plurality of times while shifting in the subscanning direction and the maximum width thereof is detected as the dot diameter corresponding to each ink chamber. A gray level data corresponding to each dot diameter is then set and fluctuation in the quantity of ink to be jetted from each ink chamber is corrected by the pulse width of ink chamber driving voltage based on the gray level data.
