PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-viscosity liquid crystal compound suitable for a liquid crystal display element, excellent in negative anisotropic value of dielectric constant, anisotropy of refractive index, chemical/physical stability and voltage retention, containing a trifluoromethylcyclohexenediyl group in a skeleton structure. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal compound containing a 2- trifluoromethylcylohexene-1,4-diyl group in a skeleton structure is shown by the formula [R<1> and Y<1> are each a 1-20C alkyl, H, a halogen, cyano, etc.; X<1> to X<4> are each a single bond, (CH2 )2 , CH=CH, C<=, COO, etc.; rings A<1> to A<5> are each 2-trifluoromethylcyclohexene-1,4-diyl, trans-cyclohexene-1,4-diyl, 1,4-phenylene, etc.; a<1> to a<5> are each 0 or 1; a<1> +a<2> +a<3> +a<4> +a<5> >=1]. |
