PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain acrolein in a high selectivity by the vapor-phase oxidation of propylene in the absence of molecular oxygen by passing propylene gas on a specific solid mixed oxide composition. SOLUTION: Acrolein is produced by passing gaseous propylene on a solid mixed oxide composition expressed by the formula Mo12 Wa Bib Fec Cod Nie Sif Kg Snh Ox ((a) is 0-5; (b) is 0.5-5; (c) is 0.1-10; (d) is 0.5-10; (e) is 0-10; (f) is 0-15; (g) is 0-1; (h) is 0-2; (x) is the number of O atoms bonded to the other elements) at 200-600 deg.C under a pressure of 1.01×10<4> to 1.01×10<6> Pa and a retention time of 0.01-90sec, thereby proceeding oxidation-reduction reaction in the absence of oxygen molecule. The above composition reduced and inactivated by the above oxidation-reduction reaction can be regenerated and reused by oxidizing with oxygen. |
