PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the generation of recessive thrust force accompanying roll cross, to secure the distribution of uniform thickness by roll cross and to manufacture a metal plate having good quality in a 6-stage rolling mill of a type in which intermediate rolls and work rolls are crossed. SOLUTION: A pair of the work rolls 2, a pair of the intermediate rolls 3 and a pair of back-up rolls 4 are provided in a rolling stand 5, the back-up rolls 4 are mounted so that their axes are orthogonal to the advancing direction of the metal plate 1 and not inclined on the horizontal plane, the intermediate rolls 3 and work rolls 2 are mounted so that respective axes are mutually inclined (crossed) in the opposite directions to the axes of the back-up rolls on the horizontal plane and, furthermore, a lubricant is supplied to the roll surface from a lubricant supply device 6.
