PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound derivative useful as a GS-X pump inhibitor, effective for anti-cancer agent-resistant cancer cells, enhancing actions of anti-cancer agent, comprising a specific glutathione derivative. SOLUTION: This new glutathione derivative is shown by formula I (R1 is benzoyl or azide; R2 and R3 are each H or a 1-4C alkyl; R4 is H or methoxycarbonyl; (n) is an integer of 4-10) e.g.θ-L-glutamyl-S-[5-(4- benzoylphenyl)pentyl]-L-cysteinyl-glycine, etc.}, shows inhibitory effects on cell proliferation, is effective for anti-cancer agent-resistant cancer cell and is useful as a GS-X pump inhibitor for enhancing actions of anti-cancer agent. The compound is obtained by brominating 5-phenylpentanol of formula II to give 1-bromo-5-phenylpentane, benzoylating or azidating the compound, reacting the reaction product with glutathione and optionally esterifying a carboxyl group.
