A pivoted sliding sash window having two pivoted sliding sashes Vs; Vi; balanced one against the other by levers 12 at each side of the frame has -the frame D head and sill including L-section metal members 4 of which the foot of the L-section lies externally at the head and internally at the sill to be abutted by the respective sashes in the closed position and form therewith a weather seal, and each sash has a-metal lower rail 2 of T-section and is arranged in the closed position of the sashes so that one flange of the cross-bar of the T- section abuts the other sash or the frame, and each sash has a metal upper rail 3 of S-section so that in the closed position of the sashes, one flange thereof abuts the other sash or the frame 4 and each sash includes metal glazing strips 5 which engage with tenons on the T- section rails, 2 and other strips 5 engage with tenons on the S-section rails 3, to retain the sash pane V in the sash. The balance levers 12 have their two arms parallel but each offset to opposite.sides of the axis of operation of the lever. A rail 8 and stile 7, Fig. 10a, of the sash are each provided with a block on the inside of the sash and are interconnected by a metal bolt 9 disposed diagonally across the corner of the sash and screwed into the blocks. The axis of the guide rollers 11 is coincident with the associated edge of the sash rail or spaced vertically therefrom towards the opposite rail. A bolt passing through the meeting T and S section rails locks the window in the closed position. |
