The low calorie gas (17) is compressed (9) added to the output of the air compressor (10) and fed to the combustion chamber (21) which feeds the gas turbine (11). The exhaust gas from the turbine passes through a heat exchanger (13) and vented via a chimney (15). If the supply of low calorie gas is interrupted, the machine is switched to a substitute fuel. The substitute fuel consists of natural gas (18) which is mixed with a proportion of the exhaust gases to reduce the calorific value of the mixture.
