PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent bonding degradation by making a base form from fibrous material to fill interspaces between different fibers with a product by chemical vapor phase infiltration. SOLUTION: A porous base material, for example, a fiber structure is made to infiltrate into a gas phase in a reactor. The gas phase contains a component necessary for a formed ceramic product to fill interspaces between different fibers with the product by chemical vapor phase infiltration. As a result, the components in a gas are excited to cause a reaction of the components, by which a solid product is formed on the surface of the fibers. For example, a secondary woven cloth made of carbon fibers is wetted by acetone to make a preform. A calcium precurser and a fluorine precurser are heated within the reactor to raise a steam pressure so that a gas/steam mixture passes through the preform obtained. As a result, the solid material is stacked on fibers of the preform. This not only achieves a higher density of the preform but also eliminates the baking process to hinder shrinkage thereby preventing deterioration in bonding. |
