SOLUTION: The lower surface of an article 4 to be ground is pressed to a grinding tool 2 via abrasives 1, and the abrasives 1 are obtained by dispersing serium oxide fine particles in water and supplied from a nozzle 8 onto the grinding tool 2. For the adjustment of free abrasive grains (serium oxide) 17, water 17 and the abrasive grains 17 are put into a mortar (dispersing instrument) 11, a pestle (dispersing instrument) 13 is put into a mortar 12 and, by mixing the abrasive grains 17 with its tip, the abrasive grains 17 are dispersed in the water 15. At this time, primary agglomerated particles are difused. Here, the mortar 11 and the pestle 13 are made of optical glass identical to a material for the article 4 to be ground or fluorite or calcite softer than the optical glass. Thus, the abrasives 17 separated from the pestle 13 during dispersing are not harder than the article 4 to be ground and cause no scratches.
