PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the results of measurement under the state close to actual running with respect to output, rate of fuel consumption and other vehicle running performances and to compare the vehicle running performances before and after the replacement of equipment and the like under the state close to the actual running furthermore. SOLUTION: A driving wheel 19 of a vehicle under test is mounted on a roller 23 of a chassis dynamometer 21. A vehicle engine 13 is driven, and the roller 23 is rotated. The rotating speedωand the absorbing torque of the roller 23 are measured. In this testing method for vehicle running performance, the vehicle acceleration is set at a constant valueα0 beforehand, the rotary acceleration of the roller 23 is controlled so that the vehicle accelerationαbecomes the above described preset valueα0 with the chassis dynamometer 21 and the vehicle speed V and the output torque T of the driving wheel 19 at this vehicle speed V are measured with the vehicle being accelerated at the above described preset accelerationα0 .
