PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply produce a plate-like foamed glass at a low cost, by finely grinding the glass cullet of waste glass bottles, mixing the ground glass with SiC and CaCO3 as foaming agents and with borax as a foaming auxiliary, spreading the mixture over a belt conveyer in a specific thickness, sintering the spread mixture in a kiln and subsequently annealing the sintered plate. SOLUTION: This method for producing a plate-like foamed glass comprises finely grinding glass cullet mainly produced from waste glass bottles discharged from households, etc., into powder having an average particle diameter of 1-30μm, mixing the glass powder with 0.1-2.0wt.% of SiC and 0.1-2.0wt.% of CaCO3 as foaming agents and with 0.1-2.0wt.% of borax as a foaming auxiliary, feeding the mixed fine powder on a belt conveyer 3 through an automatic feeder 1, continuously spreading the fed powder over the conveyer in a plate-like shape having a thickness of 5-150mm with a thickness-adjusting tool 2, charging the spread powder into a tunnel kiln or roller hearth kiln 5, melting, foaming and sintering the mixed fine powder at 800-950 deg.C for 10-60min, annealing the sintered product at 400-600 deg.C for 0.1-10hr, and subsequently cutting the produced plate-like foamed glass in an arbitrary shape.
