PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a tip position in realtime at the time of insertion without executing X-ray photographing by providing the tip of a liniar medical instrument with a magnetic field generation source and detecting the generated magnetic field through the use of a magnetic sensor. SOLUTION: Before a catheter 5 is inserted, the reset switch of a magnetic detecting main body device is operated so as to detect magnetic field strength provided by peripheral environment. After the catheter 5 is continuously inserted to the inside of a patient, a stainless wire 10 is inserted to the hollow part of the catheter 5. The insertion is continued till the stopper 12 of the stainless wire 10 is restrained in the connecting part 6 of the catheter 5 and a permanent magnet 11 held by the stainless wire 10 is set in the tip position of the catheter 5 by the completion. After receiving the permanent magnet 11, the magnetic detecting main body device reads and displays magnetic field strength which is generated by the permanent magnet by subtracting the previously detected magnetic field strength of peripheral environment.
