PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce effectivelyα,β-unsaturated aldehydes by reacting an acethylenic compound with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a cheaper new catalyst. SOLUTION: An acethylenic compound is reacted with carbon monoxide and hydrogen of the amount regulated so that the molar ratio of the hydrogen to the carbon monoxide may be (20/1) to (1/20) by using a palladium catalyst containing a phosphorus ligand regulated so that the amount of the phosphorus atoms may be 0.1-20 times as much as that of the palladium as the catalyst, and 0.01-100mol, preferably 0.1-50mol of a basic compound such as an amine based on 1mol of the acetylenic compound at a reaction temperature of a room temperature to 350 deg.C under a reaction pressure of a normal pressure to 350atm. to provide the objectiveα,β-unsaturated aldehyde. The reaction temperature is preferably 50-250 deg.C and the reaction pressure is preferably 5-20atm. |
