PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an expanded graphite sheet, capable of greatly reducing its coefficient of friction and sliding resistance, because of high content of water which works as a lubricant, keeping the functions of reducing the above properties for an extended period, and securing its highly excellent sealing performance. SOLUTION: This expanded graphite sheet 1 is obtained by incorporating an expanded graphite base, consisting of expanded graphite particles pressed mutually to form a monolithic body, with 1 to 30wt.% of water based on the unit density. The expanded graphite sheet 1 is used as the base material to form a ring-shaped gland packing 51. It can be also formed into a string to obtain a composite sealing material by reinforcing it, either on the internal or external side, with fibers or metallic wires, which is then braided or twisted into another version of gland packing 53 to 55. |
