<p>A clamping mechanism for a power tool has a bayonet washer 6 rotatably mounted on the end of a plunger 1 so that the bayonet washer 6 is rotatable between a open and a closed position. The bayonet washer 6 is biassed towards the closed position by a torsion spring, but is latched in the open position by a keeper 3 when no blade member is positioned in the clamping mechanism. When a blade member is inserted into the mechanism through a slot 22 in the bayonet washer 6 and into engagement with the plunger 1 and keeper 3, the washer 6 is automatically released from the open position and rotates under the biassing force of the torsion spring to the closed position whereupon the blade member is locked into the power tool. The blade locates in a 'V' notch 12 in the plunger 1.</p> |
