PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the protrusion of a magnetic layer or back layer, etc., on the cutting surface of a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: When the magnetic tape T consisting of the magnetic layer 22, base layer 21 and back layer 23 is cut to the specified width, projected parts of the magnetic layer 22 or the back layer 23, etc., are formed on the end surfaces of the magnetic tape T. The end surfaces of the magnetic tape T are irradiated by a UV laser beam or visible laser beam while the magnetic tape T is made to run, then by decomposing/removing the projected parts, the sectional shapes of the end parts are rectified to be nearly rectangular, or the like.
