PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To view a three-dimensional image without specially wearing spectacles with a single image display device and to enable a switching display and a simultaneous display of a two-dimensional image display and the three- dimensional image display by using a liquid crystal element for a parallax barrier arranged between a stereoscopic image display element and a light source lighting the display element from a rear surface. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element is used as a three-dimensional(3 D) image displaying display element 3, and a display light selecting optical shutter 2 is arranged on the rear surface of the 3D image displaying display element 3, and a 3D image display element light source 1 is arranged on the rear surface of the display light selecting optical shutter 2. As the display light selecting optical shutter 2, the display element of a device made as thin as possible and having a function transmitting light source light for the 3D image displaying display element 3 through and high definition is preferred, and various liquid crystal display elements are usable. Particularly, as the precise liquid crystal display element with simple element constitution, a ferroelectric liquid crystal display element is used. |
