PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate retrieval speed by starting retrieval preferentially from a word having the same number of characters as the number of characters in a word as a retrieval object or the closer number of characters. SOLUTION: When retrieval is instructed by a retrieve key 33, it is retrieved whether a word completely coincident with an inputted character string exists in a dictionary or not. When such a word exists, that coincident word is displayed as a candidate on a display part 2. Next, the range for the number of characters is determined as a 1st candidate range from the number of characters in the inputted character string. Next, one word is taken out of the dictionary. It is judged whether that extracted word is settled within the number of characters in the determined 1st candidate range. When it is settled within the range, it is judged whether the word taken out of the dictionary is the candidate of input character string or not. In this case, the candidate is judged by judging coincidence while converting the inputted character string by using the table. When the converted character string is coincident with the extracted word, the extracted word is displayed. |
