PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas cleaning system which can clean effectively hydrocarbon generated in large quantity when a combustion engine is started in a cold state. SOLUTION: This exhaust gas cleaning system comprises an adsorber which is capable of adsorbing hydrocarbons contained in an exhaust gas, arranged in the exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine and a catalyst which can clean a harmful component contained in the exhaust gas, arranged in the downstream of a direction in which the exhaust gas flow through the absorber. In this case, the ratio (the gross heat capacity of a catalyst/the gross heat capacity of an absorber) of the gross heat capacity of the catalyst to the gross heat capacity of the absorber is set at 0.02-9.38. |
