A hinge comprises two relatively rotatable components, a plate 4 provided with a frustoconical projection 19 and a block 1 provided with a cylindrical recess 7, mounted respectively on a movable frame (5) and a fixed frame (2), the projections being surrounded by a deformable annulus 22 and being engaged by the shank 8 of a bolt which is housed in the recess, the bolt head 9 being formed with slots (18) which are accessible through an aperture in one side of the block to allow rotation of the bolt thereby depressing a dished washer 24 which deforms the annulus 22 to vary the frictional resistance of the hinge. A spring loaded plunger (11) above 12 in the block, urged into engagement with an arcuate slot (21) in the plate in order to limit the relative angular movement, is retractable by a manually operable knob 13 projecting from the block. The block is divided transversely into two parts 1a, 1b to facilitate assembly of the hinge. The annulus is held against rotation relative to the plate by the interengagement of recesses 25 and lugs 26 formed in and on the annulus and the projection. The block and plate may be zinc alloy castings. |
