PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To introduce ink into a print head while suppressing bubbling even when the air is present in an ink passage by providing a first suction operation through a suction force required for the ink to reach a specified position with respect to a head, and a second stronger suction operation following thereto. SOLUTION: A suction pump 56 is controlled by means of a cam 54 such that ink is sucked from a suction head 9 through two or more suction operations of different suction force, i.e., a first suction operation with a low suction force and a second suction operation with a higher suction force and a longer suction time. When the ink in the print head contains a bubble, ink jet is deteriorated and normal printing can not be effected. When the air is present in the ink passage, ink is sucked while suppressing the bubbling through the first suction operation with a low suction force and when the ink passage is filled with ink, ink is sucked through the second suction operation with a higher suction force and a longer suction time. |
