[Also in Division C5] Sucrose N-dodecyl urethane is prepared by reacting sucrose, potassium isocyanate and dodecyl bromide in dimethyl formamide. Sucrose ethers of C 14 -C 18 olefin oxides, and optionally propylene oxide, are prepared by reacting sucrose, optionally with propylene oxide, and a mixture of C 14 -C 18 olefin oxides. The ratio of sucrose to olefin oxide may be 1:1 or 2:1 by weight. Sucrose dodecyl ether and sucrose hexadecyl ether are prepared by reacting either dodecyl bromide or hexadecyl bromide with the sodium alcoholate of sucrose prepared in dimethyl sulphoxide solution.</p> |
