The invention concerns nucleic acid molecules coding for preproproteins which, after maturation, display the biological activity of the mistletoe lectin dimer, vectors containing these nucleic acid molecules, hosts transformed by these vectors and polypeptides and polypeptide dimers coded by these nucleic acid molecules. The polypeptides and polypeptide dimers according to the invention have many therapeutic applications. Therefore the invention further concerns immunotoxins and drugs containing the polypeptides and polypeptide dimers according to the invention. The invention further concerns diagnostic compositions which contain the nucleic acid molecules according to the invention and the polypeptides and polypeptide dimers and/or primers according to the invention which specifically hybridize on the nucleic acid molecules according to the invention. Finally, the invention concerns plant-protectives containing the polypeptides and/or polypeptide dimers according to the invention.
