The present invention refers to European strains of the virus of the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), having as a unique aspect that they are not infectious for macrophags and to methods for the production of said strains. The invention also provides vaccines based on these strains for the protection of pigs against PRRS as well as to methods for the production of said vaccines.
