An ancillary instrument for fitting the components of an ankle joint prosthesis made from two bone replacement implants and an intermediate insert, e.g. of polyethylene, has reversible assembly elements with holes for fixing screws, designed to connect the implants rigidly together at the moment of their insertion. In addition to the assembly holes the instrument has transverse apertures (26, 27) for a drill bit and then anchoring screws (12) which fasten tibial and astragalian implants to the respective joint bones.
