The invention refers to a housing for a freezer installation, in particular a freezer cabinet, for storing frozen foodstuffs, the housing having the following components: a base unit (15; 15.11; 15.2) of rectangular outline, a top frame (17; 17.1; 17.2) which consists of plastic, is rectangular, runs all the way round, encloses an access opening (17.3; 17.4) and bears a movable cover (30.1; 30.2; 31.1; 31.2) arrangement which closes or releases the access opening (17.3; 17.4) of the top frame (17; 17.1; 17.2), two mutually opposite side-part (24; 25) arrangements of essentially the same outline, each having an opening (26), side panels (22; 23) which consist of metal, of which each is arranged on one side of the housing and of which the surfaces are visible through the openings (26) in the side-part (24; 25) arrangements, a rear-wall panel (21) which consists of metal, and a front-wall panel (20) which consists of metal. Further the invention refers to a modular housing system for housings of different volumes, each housing being provided for a freezer installation, in particular a freezer cabinet, for storing frozen foodstuffs with the above components. The above housing and housing system for a freezer cabinet provides favourable resistance to mechanical loading of plastic freezer cabinets, while maintaining favourable efficiency and improved heat distribution.
