The axes(9) of the deflection pulleys(8) are inclined in the feed direction of the material(2) for sawing by a maximum of 20 degrees to the perpendiculars. The body of the saw band has a minimum height of 50 mm and a thickness of between 1 and 3.5 mm. Cutting inserts are fixed on the body of the band and protrude to the side by at least 0.2 mm. The protruding side faces of the inserts include an angle of at least 1 degree with the plane of cut . The specific tensioning of the saw band lies between 20 and 70 kg per sq. metre.
