Vehicle wheel with conventional tyre (9) on its rim (7), has an emergency support (1) inside the tyre, on the rim. This has an emergency running surface, for the eventuality of tyre damage. The emergency surface is formed by the exterior of a ring, which is dish-shaped (2) in cross section. The outer supporting regions are externally convex in section (5, 6) and reach radially-inward (3, 4), down onto the rim. In the central or equatorial region (8) there is a second curved contour, facing the inner surface of the tyre, and concave in section. The curvatures blend one into another, and may vary. There are one or more supports on the rim, for the ring.
