A chopped glass fibre layer (2), impregnated with synthetic resin forms part of a cap and has a cover layer (1) on one side and foam material beads (4) on the other side. Further impregnated glass fibre layers (3,6) cover the beads, with further beads (5) between them, forming a cellular structure on which a pipe section (7) matching the shaft mouth to be covered is mounted. Preferably the glass fibre layers and the pipe section are baked together under pressure. The glass fibre is preferably in the form of glass wool cloth.
