The cable has a screen sheath under which there is at least one sheath with at least one absorbent cord (2,3). The cord or cords are laid so that a number of individual chambers (5) which lie between an absorbent cor and a screen wire or two absorbent cords are formed. One absorbent cord can run longitudinally and one can be wound. Two absorbent cords can be wound with reversed lays. The lay ratio of the wound absorbent cords can be two to five times the cable diameter
