The setting device has at least one setting element for continuous position adjustment of a phase adjustment, provided by a proportional hydraulic setting element (13), e.g. a valve, operated by a non-proportional actuator (5), e.g. an electromagnetic switching magnet. The hydraulic setting element can be moved between two end positions, with a switching characteristic adjacent an end position and a proportional characteristic between the end positions.
