A hair treatment composition for the supply of precursors of hair integral lipid fatty acids to the hair follicle comprising: (i) a first fatty acid precursor which is an amino acid selected from leucine, isoleucine, methionine and valine, and mixtures thereof, which precursor is present at levels of from 0.01 to 20% by weight based on the total weight of the composition, and from 20% to 100% by weight based on the total weight of amino acids present in the composition, (ii) from 0.01% to 20% by weight of a second fatty acid precursor selected from sugars, mono-, di-, and tri-carboxylic acids and salts thereof, which second fatty acid precursor is able to donate a two or three-carbon unit for fatty acid chain elongation, (iii) at least one surfactant selected from anionic, amphoteric, zwitterionic and cationic surfactants and mixtures thereof.
