CURABLE COMPOSITION AND OPTICAL MATERIAL PREPARED THEREFROM

A curable composition comprising 5 to 90 % by weight of at least one mercapto compound selected from the group consisting of tetrakis(7-mercapto-2,5-dithiaheptyl)methane represented by the structural formula (I): C(CH2SCH2CH2SCH2CH2SH)4 and 2,3-bis[(2-mercaptoethyl)thioethylthio]-1-propanethiol of structural formula (II), and 10 to 95 % by weight of a compound copolymerizable with the mercapto compound. The curable composition is capable of forming a resin having an excellent handleability, a high refractive index and a low specific gravity and so is suitable for use as an optical material or the like.
