Crash-protection airbag in road vehicle

The airbag (1) for crash protection in a road vehicle incorporates a flexible inflatable bag (15). The bag is sandwiched between a curved cover plate (12) and a baseplate (11). There is a polygonal or cylindrical housing (42) formed on the underside of the cover plate. There are two sets of especially square apertures (46,47) in the sides of the housing to accommodate internal and external fastenings. There is a holding device (17) which has four screws or bolts (17b) which fit through matching apertures in the bag, which is generally of toroidal shape. The baseplate fits the shape of the housing and there is a strap (53) which fits round the housing.
