The invention concerns a method for preparing 4-cyano-4'-hydroxy biphenyl, said method consisting in the following steps: protecting the hydroxy group of 4-phenyl-phenol, acylation of the protected 4-phenyl-phenol group, transforming the resulting ketone into an acid, amidation of the resulting acid, dehydrating the resulting amide and deprotecting the hydroxy group.
