Soil-resistant treatment of carpets

Liq. carpet treatment compsn. comprises (a) a water-insol. addn. polymer with >=1 principal transition temp. of >25 degrees C, derived from an ethylenically unsatd. monomer contg. no non-vinyl F, and (b) a water insoluble ester contg. aliphatic Cl, contg. >=25wt.% F bound to C in the form of a fluoroaliphatic gp. (a) is pef. an acrylic copolymer emulsion made by copolymerising methylmethacrylate (MMA), ethylmethacrylate (EMA) and CH2=C(CH3)CO2CH2CH(OH)CH2N+(CH3)3Cl- in aq. medium.The compsns. give excellent water- and oil repellency and resistance to soiling and staining, and require only moderate curing temp. (<130 degrees C, usually <100 degrees C)
