A pendulum type flying shear is provided with a miss-cut device which operates by shortening the effective length of the rods connecting the bottom blade to its eccentrics. The shear comprises an oscillating frame (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), mounted on eccentrics (2) on a main drive shaft (3). A top blade (5) is mounted in the top crossmember of the frame (1). The bottom blade (7) is mounted in a beam (8) which reciprocates in guides (6) in the side members of the frame, and is driven by eccentrics 11, Fig. 2. The connecting rod between the beam 8 and the eccentrics is formed of two parts 9 and 10 which are pivotally connected by a pin 16 and which form a toggle linkage. Associated with the parts 9 and 10 are abutment surfaces 17 which limit the rotation between the parts 9 and 10 in one direction, to establish the cutting position shown in Fig. 2. The part 9 is formed with a lever extension 26 and the part 10 with a lever extension 22, and the levers are connected by pins 20 and 21 respectively to an hydraulic actuator 19. Movement of the actuator rocks the parts 9 and 10 to a second position, determined by the abutments, 18 in which the bottom blade is retracted below the cutting position. |
