A shoe lace (10) has one or more slip resistant strands (16) among a number of conventional strands (12) of any suitable natural or synthetic fibre. The slip resistant strands (16) may comprise any normal strand impregnated with a soft, high friction rubber or plastic cpd., or may be of synthetic resins having grooves (30). The laces (10) may be produced by conventional means such as braiding, weaving or knitting in round, semi-round or rectangular cross-section.
