<p>An image forming apparatus has a movable image bearing member (1), a charging member (2) capable of contacting with the image bearing member to charge the image bearing member, a cleaning member (10) capable of contacting with the charging member to clean the surface of the charging member, detecting means (14) for detecting a parameter related to the deteriorated state of the surface of the image bearing member, and control means (16) for controlling the cleaning condition by the cleaning means on the basis of the result of the detection by the detecting means. The parameter includes the frequency of image formation, the number of rotations of said image bearing member or an amount of current flowing from said charging member to said image bearing member. <IMAGE></p> |
