A compact disc storage, retrieval and reader system for a computer. The system has an externally accessible disc loading drawer/staging cavity portal, and has an upper disc storage magazine disposed directly above the portal and a lower disc storage magazine disposed directly below the portal. A vertically movable disc transport and optics reader assembly is included, and provides an optics mechanism for accessing data from a disc, an upper disc loader disposed directly above the optics mechanism for accepting a disc, and a lower disc loader disposed directly below the optics mechanism for accepting a disc. The assembly is positioned such that upward vertical movement thereof allows the upper disc loader component to accept discs situated in the upper magazine as well as from the disc loading drawer/staging cavity portal, while downward vertical movement allows the lower disc loader component to accept discs situated in the lower magazine. In addition to the upper disc loader component being able to accept discs, a disc therein can be engaged by the optics mechanism for data thereof to be accessed. |
