<p>A processing apparatus (10) for processing a web of photosensitive material (14) having an emulsion layer on one side. The apparatus has at least one development section (13). The development section (13) comprises an elongated narrow processing chamber (40) having an entrance port for receiving a processing solution (22) under pressure; a processing tube (28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38) (42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52) disposed within the elongated narrow processing chamber and forming a narrow fluid passageway (62) between the chamber and the processing tube, the web passing through the processing tube at a fixed predetermined orientation and position so as to define a longitudinal axis with respect to the photosensitive material (14), the processing tube having at least one row (100) of processing openings (102a, 102b, 102c, 102d, 102e) for introducing processing fluid from the passageway into the processing tube against the emulsion layer substantially across the width of the emulsion layer. The elongated chamber may be formed using an elongated tube placed around the processing tube. The inner tube may have an elliptical cross-sectional configuration.</p> |
