PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-pressure form of BN sintered compact having improved wear resistance, capable of enhancing the roughness of the finished surface in the case of using as a cutting tool, and capable of increasing the hardness of the sintered compact and especially fit for the machining of high strength cast iron, quench-hardened steel with high hardness and a hardly machinable material. SOLUTION: This high-pressure form of BN sintered compact is obtd. by sintering 15-40vol.% starting material for high-pressure form of BN and 60-85vol.% starting material for a bonding phase. The starting material for high pressure phase BN consists of cubic BN having <=2μm average particle diameter and 6-20vol.% wurtzite type BN having <=1μm average particle diameter based on the amt. of the cubic BN. The starting material for a bonding phase consists of TiC, TiN, a mixture of them, or solid soln. of them and Al in their weight ratio of 2.5-6. |
