PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device equipped with a thermal fixing roll showing high release performance and little deterioration by frictional wear. SOLUTION: This fixing device is equipped with a thermal fixing roll, a heater to heat the surface of the thermal fixing roll and a pressurizing member to pressurize the thermal fixing roll. The thermal fixing roll has such a structure that a heat-resistant elastic layer 6 formed on a cylindrical core metal 5 is covered with a fluorocarbon resin tube 7 in which an inorg. powder having the average particle size between >=0.5μm and <=15μm and >=8 new Mohs' hardness is added by 1 to 10wt.%. The strain of the thermal fixing roll produced by the pressurizing member is preferably controlled in >=0.5%. As for the inorg. powder, silicon carbide and alumina can be used.
