PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy for a piston capable of suppressing deterioration in hardness caused by high temp. heating and furthermore capable of improving wear resistance. SOLUTION: This aluminum alloy for a piston is the one contg. compositions of Al as a base and Si, Cu, Mg, Ni, P, Ti, Fe and Mn, and the blending ratios of the compositions are set to the following: Si to, by weight, 10 to 14%, Cu to 3 to 5%, Mg to 0.5 to 2%, Ni to 1 to 3%, P to 0.002 to 0.02%, Ti to 0.1 to 0.3%, Fe to <=0.8% and Mn to 0.1 to 1.0%. Furthermore, the average particle size of primary crystal Si particles is set to 20 to 60μm.
