A pre-vulcanised tread band consists of a top (2) and two side members (3), each of which ends in a thickened rounded edge (4). Also claimed is a tyre comprising the claimed tyre tread. Preferably, each edge is situated adjacent to an annular recess (9) of dimensions designed to produce a separation between the edge and the main body (8) of the side member in order to protect the edge from the forces applied to the body. The side member has its minimal thickness located adjacent to the annular recess, and the thickness of the rounded edge is equivalent to at least twice the minimal thickness of the recess. The edge has a cross-section in the shape of a semi-circle having a radius greater than or equal to the minimal thickness of the side member.
